![]() ![]() It's a shame the Guitar Hero fad took over Neversoft's development time up until their merger with Infinity Ward and eventual dissolution in 2014, as they would have continued the franchise if they had the resources to spare.Īs I grew up I knew little of existence of these games and movies because at that time I was in elementary school. ![]() GUN by Neversoft is a great wild west open world shooter on the GameCube, it was at the time what Red Dead Redemption is today. I don't think this qualifies, but I'll mention it simply because the game is so cinematic. I had played The Third Age on the PlayStation 2 at the time without realizing it was also available on the GameCube, that is a great Lord Of The Rings game as well. Great combat, comparable to Dynasty Warriors in terms of the sheer number of enemies you can kill in each level. Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers and the Return Of The King titles on the GameCube are decent. Toy Story 2 on the Nintendo 64 is a great little 3D platformer. Probably the best modern Batman game outside of the Arkham series in my opinion. Batman Begins on the GameCube is an interesting little playthrough, as well, it makes interesting use of a "fear" system to intimidate thugs during combat and interrogation scenarios. Great depiction of the 1930's and 40's, beautiful cars. The Godfather port on the Wii was a fair depiction of the Godfather films, if a little condensed. Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire is also a classic Nintendo 64 era Star Wars game with an original story not based on the movies (I'm not even a Star Wars fan, but I love that game). You can manipulate just about every aspect of how your pod racer handles, from acceleration to traction, even the gravity of the level can be manipulated, if I remember correctly. I think it requires the use of at least two Nintendo 64 controllers to enable, but it's worth a look. Star Wars Episode 1: Racer has a really cool debug mode with tons of complex features that are worth checking out. The two Hulk GameCube games are decent as well, Ultimate Destruction is one of the best superhero games ever made. Kudos for Episode 1: Racer and the real Spider-Man 2 game. The Telltale game was the closest we’ve come to recapturing the magic of those movies in a game, but imagine an open-world Hill Valley with a narrative to take you between time periods driving/flying the DeLorean, dodging terrorists, scooting around on a hoverboard, stealthily following Biff to the auto garage, chasing trains on horseback.ĭon’t get us wrong, the huge mix of mechanics we’ve just mentioned would need a studio with serious chops to prevent it becoming a mess of underbaked systems, but there’s a huge affection for the franchise – you can’t tell us it wouldn’t be worth the investment of time, effort and (critically) money. To be fair, he did say he'd be back - multiple times - so why not make it good for a change?īack to the Future is another one. The T-800 is a natural bullet sponge with in-built detective vision and a penchant for shooting big guns – allot a decent budget and put a good studio on the job (Rocksteady, for example) and we're certain there'd be an audience for it. We’d love to see a great Terminator 2 game, for example. Combining the power of the console and its odd controller with the fantasy fulfilment of 'being' James Bond, it might not stand up brilliantly today, but in its time it was an absolute marvel and Bond hasn't starred in a better game since ( Everything Or Nothing is pretty good, though it can't hold a candle to this). Originally an on-rails shooter, the quality of the game arguably comes from the time developer Rare was given to get it right (it missed launching with its namesake movie by nearly two years). ![]() At a time when PlayStation was too cool for school, GoldenEye 007 provided some real ammo in the console wars, and its 4-player deathmatches led to some of the best multiplayer moments on the system. Not only was the game hugely influential on the FPS genre on consoles, but it also gave N64 owners an 'adult' experience to sink their teeth into. As Nintendo fans, this is probably the first game that pops into your head when you think 'great movie licensed games'. ![]()
